Our club is genuinely thrilled to be affiliated to Estudiantes De La Plata of Argentina.
One of the most famous football teams in world, Estudiantes De La Plata were Champions of the world in in 1968, beating Manchester United in the European South American Championship, a competition that has since become the World Club Championship.
Based in La Plata, the capital of Buenos Aires Province in Argentina, Estudiantes have won the Copa Libertadores (the South American Cup) four times, most recently in 2009 when they were captained by Juan Sebastian Veron.
Veron, who is now the President of the club returned to his homeclub in 2006 after a long and highly successful career in Europe. Winning the Argentina championship in 2006 Veron was instrumental in leading the team to glory. Months later, in the final of the World Club Championship Estudiantes were minutes away from retaining their title as the world's best team. It was only an 89th equaliser and then an extra time winner from Lionel Messi that denied Estudiantes the opportunity to retain the title they had won in 1968, when Veron's father, the legendary Juan Ramon Veron helped the club win the title against a Manchester United that included Bobby Chartlon and George Best.
In Modern Times, Estudiantes remain one of the best clubs in Argentina, recently renovating their wonderful Jorge Luis Hischi Stadium. One of their most famous players now is the legendary, Javier Masherano, who is the most capped Argentina player of all time, with 147 appearances.
We thank Estudiantes De La Plata and their Foundation for their support of our project here.
